HuisXI in Trintelen: Where Design and Nature Meet

As you drive into Trintelen, a village nestled in the folds of the Limburg countryside as if it doesn’t want to be noticed, you suddenly see HuisXI (House Eleven)—a renovated farmhouse where every detail, from the clean lines to the warm materials, tells a story of love and an eye for style. It’s as if someone said, “Let’s honor the past, but with a modern wink.” And that’s exactly what it is: a place where the rugged charm of the old farmhouse blends seamlessly with the comfort and elegance of contemporary design.

The rooms exude tranquility and refinement, with colors that softly complement each other, furniture that is both functional and beautiful, and light that falls in just the right places. Around you, the Limburg landscape unfolds—lush orchards, sunlit vineyards—as if nature itself helped shape the design.

Peter and Wolter welcome you like an old friend, creating a place where you can completely unwind. You start your day with a breakfast that isn’t just delicious but beautifully presented, as if the meal itself is a work of art. Afterward, you can stroll through the rolling hills, where the landscape invites you to slow down and savor the moment, or lose yourself in the culinary delights the region has to offer.

Whether you come for the design, the peace, the nature, or simply to escape the hustle and bustle—here, you experience it all, and more. Ready for a stay you won’t soon forget? House Elf is waiting for you.

Peter, Wolter & Sammie: Where Global Warmth Meets Limburg Magic

Here, among the rolling hills of the enchanting Heuvelland, Peter and Wolter—two cosmopolitan Dutchmen—have found their home, as if they always knew this was the perfect setting for their next chapter. After forty years in bustling Amsterdam, they’ve created a place where their worldly experience and open-mindedness blend seamlessly with the tranquility and beauty of the Limburg countryside.

Sammie, their loyal beagle, roams with the independent spirit of someone who knows life doesn’t always follow commands. A difficult start as a pup taught her that trust is earned, not freely given. That very reserve is what makes her so special, as if she knows the most beautiful moments often arrive unexpectedly.

Peter, trained at the prestigious Rietveld Academie, spent a quarter of a century shaping beauty and functionality as a designer. Wolter, educated at the Hotel School Maastricht, rose to the top of five-star hospitality, learning that true elegance lies in the details. In 2005, they decided to combine their strengths and follow their passion: creating a place where hospitality isn’t just a word, but an art. Their dedication was rewarded in 2017 with the title Best Boutique Hotel in the Netherlands—recognition for what they’d always known: that an unforgettable stay begins with genuine care.

Now, they bring that same warmth, style, and personal touch to their own oasis in the Heuvelland. Here, where the rolling landscape invites you to breathe deeply and time seems to stand still, you’ll discover why guests don’t just return—they never truly want to leave. Ready to experience how worldly elegance and Limburg serenity come together?

Peter, Wolter, and Sammie are waiting for you.

Champagne with breakfast—the day begins with a celebration

You might almost forget how ordinary it’s become: waking up, grabbing a cup of coffee, a slice of bread, and rushing out the door. But at HuisXI we do things differently. Here, the day doesn’t just start—it unfolds, like a story you don’t want to miss.

At an impressively set table, everything is ready. Not just any breakfast, but a five-course champagne breakfast, as if the morning itself decided to show its best side. Around you, the lush greenery of the garden, where ancient oaks stretch out their branches as if inviting you to stay awhile. To savor.

Here, we don’t just eat. Every bite is a surprise, every mouthful a memory of the Heuvelland. Organic, artisanal, made with love—words that aren’t just spoken here but found in every crumb, every drop, every flavor.

And then there’s the table. So beautifully set that you hesitate for a moment before sitting down. But that’s exactly the point: you don’t need to know the rules here. Just start from the outside in and let yourself be surprised by what comes. Because every course has its own silverware, and every course its own story—as if breakfast itself has something to tell you.

So if you think breakfast is boring, come here. At HuisXI, the day doesn’t begin with a hasty bite, but with a feast for the senses. And who knows? Maybe you’ll look at mornings differently afterward.

The Orange Suite: Where Time Slows down

You step into a room and suddenly feel it: this is no ordinary space. This is the Orange Suite, forty-five square meters where the world seems to shrink, where everything softly whispers: Stay awhile, relax, you don’t have to do anything here.

There stands the bed—a king-size dream of opulence, surrounded by pillows so soft you almost believe they were made just for you. You sink into it as if the day itself is tucking you in, as if time has decided to leave you in peace for a moment. The room is furnished with pieces that tell a story—antiques that whisper of the past, designs that wink at the present. It’s as if someone said, “Let’s make everything beautiful, but not too perfect. Let’s keep it cozy.”

At the back, a sunny terrace awaits, where the silence is so delicious you almost forget there’s a world outside. A glass of wine, a book, or simply doing nothing—here, it’s all allowed. Inside, you can lounge on the sofa with your own TV or flip through Frame Magazine, where architecture and design inspire dreams of beautiful things you might want to see someday.

And then there’s the bathroom—a space almost too beautiful to be called just a “bathroom.” A rain shower that wakes you up as if you’re standing under a waterfall, towels warmed just for you, and L’Occitane products that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a spa—only you don’t need to put on a robe to get there.

So if you’re looking for a place where luxury doesn’t boast, where style isn’t stiff, and where you can just be yourself for a while—this is it. The Orange Suite. Step inside and stay awhile.

The Green Suite: Where the World Turns a Shade Greener

You step into a room, and suddenly, everything changes. As if you’ve wandered into a forest—but without the mosquitoes and with a bed that promises you’ll never want to leave. Welcome to The Green Suite, forty-five square meters where nature and design meet so seamlessly, you almost forget it wasn’t grown this way.

Here, everything is green, but not in a flashy way. No, it’s the kind of green that makes you think of a springtime walk, when the trees first unfurl their leaves and the world is still full of promises. The room is furnished with pieces that have character—antiques with a past, furniture designed by Peter himself, as if he thought, “Let’s create something that isn’t just beautiful, but feels like it’s always been yours.”

And then there’s the canopy bed, made of solid oak, so sturdy and warm it almost feels like it wants to tell you a bedtime story. It’s the kind of bed you sink into as if the world outside doesn’t exist for a while.

At the back, a private terrace waits, where you can sit with a glass of wine, a book, or just your thoughts. The silence here is so delicious you almost forget there’s anything beyond this moment. Inside, you can lounge on the sofa, watch TV, or flip through Domus Magazine, where architecture and design inspire dreams of homes you might want to live in someday.

And then that bathroom—a space almost too beautiful to be called just a “bathroom.” A rain shower that wakes you up as if you’re standing under a waterfall, towels warmed just for you, and L’Occitane products that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a spa—only without the hassle of booking an appointment.

Here, every detail is considered, as if someone thought carefully about what it would be like to just be yourself for a while. So if you’re looking for a place where serenity isn’t something you look up in a dictionary but something you feel the moment you walk in—this is it. The Green Suite. Go ahead, sink in, and stay awhile.

From Drawing Board to Breakfast Table

There was a time when I shaped the world from behind my drawing board. For over twenty-five years, I designed all kinds of things: from nightclubs with wallpaper as wild as the guests to exhibitions at the Royal Palace on the Dam, where the walls whispered of history. I created apartments for people who didn’t know what they wanted, teapots for those who cherished tranquility, and wedding rings for lovers who thought they needed nothing—except each other. But what always fascinated me most? How a space touches people, and how people bring a space to life.

And now? Now I shape something different: the feeling you get when you’re truly welcome somewhere. That decades-long experience, that eye for detail, you’ll find it in every corner of our B&B. Do I see an opportunity to make something more beautiful, more practical, or simply more fun? Then I pull up my chair, grab a pencil and paper, and get to work. During your stay, you’ll encounter my designs everywhere: in the bathrooms that feel like a spa, the tables that are just the right height, the cabinets that never creak, and even in the way your breakfast is presented—with a real Surtout de Table, as if you’ve landed in a French castle instead of Limburg.

In 2018, we received the award for Best Design Hotel in the Netherlands. A nice honor, of course, but really, it was just confirmation of what we already knew: that good design doesn’t stand out, but it does make you feel. That it’s not about things looking beautiful, but about things working beautifully.

So come in. Let yourself be surprised by a place where every detail tells a story, where design doesn’t get in the way but instead enhances that feeling of home. And who knows? Maybe after your stay, you’ll start looking at things differently—your own home, your own table, your own life. Because that’s the beauty of design: it teaches you that the most beautiful things are often the simplest.
